First — what is ETIAS, in plain words
ETIAS — short for European Travel Information and Authorization System — is simply a short set of questions linked to your passport. It is something the European countries have begun asking visitors to complete before their trip, so that your arrival at the airport feels calmer.
It is not a visa. It is not a long form. It is a tidy pre-trip step. Our job is to walk you through it gently and make sure nothing is missed.
Who this is for
If you usually visit Europe without applying for a visa, then ETIAS will most likely be a small new step in your travel preparation. This includes travellers from many countries across the Americas, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and elsewhere.
If you currently need a visa to enter Europe, please continue with the visa process you already use — ETIAS does not change that. If you hold passports from more than one country, you generally use whichever passport gives you the easiest path.
> A helpful note: if you are unsure whether ETIAS applies to you, please write to us. A real person on our team will gently check together with you.
Your passport — the most important thing to have nearby
Your passport is the single most important item in any ETIAS questionnaire. Every other answer flows from it. Please have it open in front of you — reading from the page is much easier than recalling from memory.
- Use a passport that is in good physical condition, with the photo page clear and undamaged.
- Make sure the validity date extends comfortably past your travel dates — not just barely past them.
- Make sure the spelling of your full name on the passport matches your travel bookings exactly.
- If you have just renewed your passport, please use the new document — not the old one.
- Don't worry if the format of dates looks unfamiliar — our questionnaire helps you enter each part separately.
What we will gently ask you about
The questionnaire is a calm set of short questions. Nothing is asked that does not need to be asked. Each section is grouped together and written in plain language.
- Your personal details — your full name as printed in the passport, your date of birth, where you were born, and your nationality.
- Your passport details — the number, where it was issued, when it was issued, and when it expires.
- Your contact details — an email address you actually check, and a phone number where we can reach you if needed.
- Your trip details — the first European country you will arrive in, your planned arrival date, and the address of your first night.
- A short set of background questions, asked the same way for every traveller, with simple yes/no answers.
- If a younger traveller is part of the trip, a few short details about a parent or guardian.
A friendly word about eligibility
Most travellers from visa-exempt countries are expected to qualify. The short background questions are simply there so the system can spot situations that may need a closer look. Please answer them honestly — even small inconsistencies are the most common reason for delays.
If you are unsure how to answer a particular question, that is perfectly fine. Please write to us and we will explain in plain English what is being asked.
Travellers in special situations
Younger travellers usually need their own ETIAS, even when travelling with parents. Family members of European citizens may have a different path available to them — please write to us if you would like a quiet conversation about it.
Travellers who have had their passport lost or stolen, or who have a more complicated travel history, are welcome to reach out before beginning. We will help you decide the gentlest way to start.
Getting ready before you begin
Please take a quiet moment to gather your passport, an email address you check, a rough idea of your arrival date, and the address where you will stay on your first night. If you are helping family members, please gather everyone's passports together so we can carefully check them side by side.
Don't worry if a detail is missing right now — you can always come back, or you can write to us and we will help you figure out what to do next.
Ready when you are — no rush
Take your time. A real person on our team will gently guide you, step by step.
